From Mud to Mercy

Do you remember

You and me

That day

Along with our pals

Lifting heavy bags on the shoulder

With weariness and hunger

Returning home from school

Dragging dust, feeling dull

I was running hard

And you chasing me

Then your shoes got splashed

In a muddy pool

As we hurried up the pace

You let me hold your bag

Bent down low

And tied your dancing lace

I smiled and stayed

But you ran like a culprit in a case

Vanished so fast

Did not even leave a trace

————————————————————

My burden

Your burden

Dual burden, silent burden

All of a sudden

My cheeks turned red

Thoughts misled

My spinning, rotating head

When you treated me

Like your maid instead

————————————————————–

In my helpless condition

You mocked, amused

Left me there

Half lost, half confused

You kept walking

Did not turn around

Not a look, not a sound

So obvious it was

I dropped your old century museum bag

On the dusty ground

You got furious

Eyes sharp like a greyhound

In that moment

I saw my pain rebound

—————————————————————-

Not even far

Your shoes betrayed you again

Splashed and stuck

Held tight by mud and pain

I laughed this time

Playing my part in the game

But your baleful glance

Cut straight through my frame

You caught me quickly

Before I could escape your aim

I thought you would beat me hard

Leave behind a scar

But instead

You gave me something rare

Something quiet, yet strong and fair

A gift still living in your heart

From that moment,

from that start

Forgiveness

And kindness

Something every soul

On this Earth should embrace
