The day I stop telling the truth,
I might finally find some peace.
I could hide behind a lie,
pretend everything is fine,
and keep running
from the truth I left behind.
But one day,
the truth will catch up with me.
It will stand before me and ask,
“Was peace really what you were looking for?”
And there I will stand,
with a heart full of pain
and tears in my eyes,
trying to find the words to explain.
“I tried to find peace by telling the truth,
but all I found was pain.
So now, I am saving a little peace for later,
because I am afraid
that if I cannot learn to lie,
I might find it harder to live
with the truth.”
But lies have a weight of their own.
Sooner or later,
I will have to carry them everywhere I go.
They say the truth sets you free.
They say truth always wins.
But what if I am tired of winning?
What if I don’t care who wins or loses?
I don’t want to prove anyone wrong.
I don’t need to prove myself right.
I don’t need a victory
for the world to celebrate.
I just want a little peace of mind.
A peace that doesn’t cost me my honesty,
but doesn’t leave me hurting
for the sake of it either.
Because, in the end,
I don’t want to win against the world.
I just want to live with myself
without having to fight
for a little peace.
