firecrackers in the sky
might have scared some people
caught them in the middle of something
some might have stopped
to enjoy the view
wondering what the occasion was
what people were celebrating

another firecracker
lighting up the sky
someone with a dead phone
walking down a dark path
might have felt relieved
for a little while
snap snap snap
more firecrackers
who’s doing this?
what’s the occasion?
what’s going on?
people started to wonder
and then I thought
I should stop now
no more snapping until Christmas
until the New Year
let them wonder
until then
some things
are better
draped in the mind
