Should I really worry
about the people
holding a smile on their face
and hatred inside their heart
their sweetness melts you
to the core
then you see the same people
marching with the protesters
holding placards
Go Home
You Don’t Belong Here
words that make sense
only to them
never to humanity
sometimes I wonder
what draws a border
around a person
a line
someone else decided
would separate
us
a border
that moves
when it needs to
but never for me
I saw him tonight
at the pub
he smiled
shook my hand
I never thought
he had been in that march
I don’t know
whether he followed the crowd
or whether the crowd
followed him
my heart still shivers
every time
he appears
and calls my name
calls my name
